Description
The Express is an organization dedicated to the game of realistic simulated/fantasy horse racing, specificially as it pertains to the "other" (non-Thoroughbred) racing breeds; Appaloosas, Arabians, Paints, Quarter Horses, and Standardbreds.
Before You Get Started
First, please understand that realistic model racing requires time and organization. Make sure you take this into account when you are deciding whether or not you want to join us.
Second, the horses we use in this hobby are paper horses, an identity backed by a realistic pedigree. They are not real horses, and while some people have models backing the identities, the vast majority do not. Any real horses that are mentioned in this site are strictly for entertainment/educational purposes only.
A Little More Detail
Quite simply, it is a form of fantasy gaming that attempts to recreate, as realistically as possible, the sport of horse racing. No actual models are necessary in this hobby. While some top-notch racers eventually get assigned "bodies", the "horses" are usually just identities, backed by a realistic pedigree. Races are run using a point-based handicapping method and die rolls are used to simulate the actual racing action and racing luck. While there are e-mail mailing lists and many enthusiasts maintain websites, the hobby is NOT totally online or cyber-based.
It is a hobby that requires time and organization. The ability to keep accurate records is a MUST if you wish to be successful. Research of racing bloodlines, current trends in the real-life racing industry, and training methods and equipment are all tools for the simulated racing enthusiast.
*Instant* success in the hobby is rare, so be prepared to spend several months just learning the basics. However, if you enjoy learning and researching about horses and horse racing and using what you learn in a creative fashion, it can also be very rewarding. There are some people who have been involved in it for more than a decade!
